We rode our bikes for a couple of miles and when we got to the coastline at the very end of Florida mainland in the Everglades, all we saw close up was this lone Ibis. But out to sea--actually miles of very shallow water and sandbanks at low tide were millions of birds, perhaps even the colorful flamingoes and roseated spoonbills we so hoped to see. We hopped back on the bikes quickly as the mosquitoes were ready to land the moment we paused.
